Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) is a proven public health strategy aimed at protecting young children from malaria during the high transmission season. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to the purpose, scheduling, drug regimen, delivery methods, and the impact of SMC. You will learn about the combination of Sulfadoxine-Pyrimethamine (SP) and Amodiaquine (AQ), how SMC is administered across four to five monthly cycles depending on rainfall patterns, and the role of Community Drug Distributors (CDDs) in ensuring effective coverage. By the end of this course, learners will understand the critical importance of SMC in reducing malaria episodes and child mortality, and how it fits into broader malaria prevention efforts.
